What's up guys! My name is Brock.
You're watching The Modest Man and todaywe're trying to find a pair of chino shorts that actually fits.
All right, so chino shorts are one of those essential spring/summer wardrobe piecesthat every man has to own, preferably in a couple of different colors and it's crucial that they fit.
You know, assuming you're already to the point where you're not wearing baggy cargo shorts, you're probably looking for a good pair of chino shorts to wear when the weather heats up,you know, when you have to wear casual spring and summer outfits.
I love a good pair of chino shorts but it has to fit properlyand that means it has to be the right length, okay, it can't be too long and go past your knees and it has to be the right width.
So, it can't be too baggy around your legs because it's gonna make your legs look scrawnyand this is a problem that I really have, because I have thin legs.
I have thin thighs and so a lot of shorts, even slim fit shorts are too baggy and too wide for me.
So I was in the mall today and just looking for a pair of good chino shorts.
Basic chino shorts that actually fit properly and went to a few of the big brands.
You know, Gap, Banana Republic, Abercrombie, just to see what they havebecause I haven't been there in a while and everybody has their spring/summer collections in stock now.
So I just want to show you what I found.
I took a few pictures of me trying on different shorts.
I'm just gonna share my experience with you.
So, hopefully this will help you figure out if any of these brands are worth checking out,you know, maybe you can find a pair of chinos shorts that's perfect for your build.
All right, first up American Eagle.
So, these are the American Eagle, extreme-flex, slim, above-the-knee chino shorts.
Size 28 in the khaki color.
They're stretch fabric, so pretty comfy and you know, out of all the brands I've tried, these actually fit pretty well.
They are little wide for my taste.
I like a very very slim fit, almost like a skinny fit shortsbecause my legs are pretty thin but honestly if you're built like me or maybe even a little bigger, these would fit really well for you.
You know, I'm like just under 5'6" about 118.
So you know, for me these were still just a little baggy but the length was perfect.
Very comfortable because they're made out of that stretch fabricand you know the price is right.
Next up we have Banana Republic.
Now, these were laughable.
This was a size 30, which was the smallest sizethey had in stock at the store.
These are the 10 inch Aiden Short in stretch cotton.
So, I love Banana Republic chinos and actually their Aidan Fit fits me pretty well.
I like their Fulton a little better, I guess it's the slimmest fit they makebut these are the Aiden Shorts.
These are basically kind of like the Aiden Chinos, just shorts, instead of pants.
These were huge on me.
I don't know, you could fit two of me in one of these pairs of shortslike one of me in each leg.
The waist was, it says 30 inches, this waist was probably close to the 33 or 34 inches, you know, vanity sizing for you.
They went past my knees.
Ofcourse, I had to hold them up or else they would fall downand they were just way too wide and baggy.
So, these shorts were extremely oversized and I gotta say, I'm very disappointed in Banana Republicfor making these shorts because they didn't fit at all.
Okay, so next up we had the Gap.
These are the 10 inch, above-the-knee, chino shorts from the Gap in size 28.
And you know, these were better than the Banana Republic 30s but still they were kind of big on me.
The waist fit a little better because it was 28 instead of 30 butthey are still pretty long, they went to like mid knee and they were still way too wide for my skinny legs.
I kind of wish Gap made like a skinny fit short, like they do with their jeansbecause I think that would fit perfectly.
But you know, these ones are way too big for me.
If I had to choose between these and the American Eagle, I would go with American Eagle.
Okay, next up we have Express.
You know, I'm not a huge fan of Express, I like their slim fit V-neck Merino wool sweaters, but other than that, I really don't buy anything from Express these days.
But you know, it's a mall store, it's pretty affordable, so I wanted to see how their shorts fit .
So, I got the slim fit, 9 inch, just-above-the-knee, chino shorts.
These probably fit closest to the American Eagle shorts.
They're a little bit longer but they fit around the waist.
They were a little baggy for my legs but probably okay for you know, someone who has a more of an average build.
I do have very slim legs like I mentioned.
These were a little too long for my taste,I'd probably cuff them once but even then they're just a little too baggy and wide.
But you know, not bad, definitely worth checking out if you're in the mall.
Okay, last up, we have Abercrombie & Fitch.
A&F stretch preppy fit.
So it's a flat front short that hits above the knee.
They say, it's a 7 inch inseam and I tried these on in size 28.
Again, these fit kind of somewhere in between American Eagle and Express.
I'd say they're short like the American Eagle shorts but they're a little on the wider side.
Definitely, slimmer than most of, like the classic fits that you're gonna find out there.
Didn't quite fit me and again this is probably more, you know, my problemthan the problem with these shorts.
I just have very thin legs.
So, it's really hard for me to find shorts that fit.
My favorite pair that I've ever found so far is from ASOS.
It's the skinny chino shorts in the mid length.
So, I think they're about a 10 inch inseam.
But I cuff them a couple times and they're nice and tapered, nice and slim.
They fit me perfectly.
The only problem is because they're ASOS, they're kind of low qualityand so they don't hold up very well.
I'd say out of all the shorts I tried today,American Eagle, Banana Republic, Gap, Express and Abercrombie.
I would probably recommend American Eagle and Abercrombie.
I think that they fit all-around better than the other brands.
Really can't recommend Banana Republic unfortunately.
If you're still looking and if you have a build that's somewhat similar to meor if you're a little bigger, either more muscular or just heavier,I think those two brands are worth checking out.
All right guys! I hope my little trip to the mall helps you figure outwhich chino shorts and which brands you might want to try this summer.
