Solid Vinyl vs Mesh Inground Winter Pool Cover; Which is Better?

What's up guys?Cristian here with River Pools, and today, what we're going to talk about is safety covers.

Now, I realize springtime is upon us, and it's time to pull the safety covers off.

But if you're shopping for a pool, you're considering this as part of your pool package.

So we're going to talk about it on today's episode of Two Minutes in the Pool.

Okay.

On today's episode, we're going to cover and compare two different cover materials.

We're going to talk about solid vinyl safety covers, and we're going to talk about meshsafety covers.

You know the deal, I'm going to set two minutes on my clock and try to get to the bottom ofthis before the timer goes off.

Let's go.

All right.

Let's cover mesh security covers first.

I'm going to give you some advantages.

I'm going to give you some disadvantages.

I'm going to do the same for solid vinyl and let you consider what's best for your pool.

Mesh cover advantages, first and foremost, they cost a few hundred bucks less than asolid vinyl cover.

We also find that they last a bit longer.

And the average lifespan we find in the industry is that they last anywhere from 10 to 15 years.

That's pretty good for a security cover for your pool.

They do not need maintenance during the off season, and that's because water can simplypass through it, which means you don't have to maintain a pump to keep water off of itfrom sagging the cover down.

Now, because the water can pass through, one of the disadvantages is that it allows additionalwater particulars to enter your pool water, which means you're going to have dirtier poolwater to deal with when it comes time to open in at the start of swimming season.

And because you're going to have other materials in the pool, the closer you get to warm weather, the more prone you're going to be to algae, also, due to the fact that sunlight can enterand get through that cover to the water.

So there's some things to consider for mesh covers.

Let's talk about solid vinyl security covers now.

Some advantages are that sunlight and water cannot get through the cover, which meansyou're going to have cleaner water to deal with, and you're not going to be nearly asprone to algae growth as you would with a mesh cover.

One of the disadvantages to a solid vinyl cover, or some of them, are that they do costa bit more.

They're lifespan is a bit shorter, but they do require some maintenance during the offseason.

A water pump is necessary to keep water off the top, which will prevent it from saggingtoo much and stressing the cover itself.

And these are also quite a bit heavier than a mesh cover, which means you're going toneed at least two people to take it off your pool safely and get it folded up and storedfor the season.

I'm Cristian with River Pools.

I just got through that before the time went off.

And there it is.

Two Minutes in the Pool.

We'll see you in the next episode.

Catch the wave.
