Joe: Hey guys, it's Joe from Mattress Clarity.
Today, I'm going to be going over my five favorite memory foam mattresses.
I'm going to give you a brief overview of what you should look out for if you're lookingto get a memory foam mattress, then I'm going to run through my top five picks and attemptto justify why I like them so much, and who they'd be the best fit for.
Basically, by the end of the video, you're going to have a pretty good idea which oneyou should get, so stay tuned.
[music]Joe: First things first.
If you have any specific questions or you want me to give you a personal recommendation,I'm happy to do so.
All you have to do is leave a comment below.
When we talk about memory foam mattresses, I'm talking about mattresses with memory foamon top.
Some mattresses have memory foam in it, but it's in the second or third layer.
We're not talking about that in this review.
Why do people like memory foam mattresses?Number one, they're just very, very comfortable mattresses.
Number two is pressure relief.
When we test mattresses, we do a pressure map test, and memory foam consistently outperformsother sleeping surfaces as far as relieving pressure is concerned.
Number three is pain relief.
Memory foam conforms to the curves of your body very well, which is great for spinalalignment, which can help with back pain.
Also, if you have shoulder or hip pain, it can relieve that pressure and help with thatkind of pain.
Potential cons, though.
The number one thing I would say is the propensity to sleep hot.
Given the chemical nature of memory foam, it can sleep hot.
I know that's a big issue for a lot of people, so we actually have a separate round up forbest cooling mattresses.
You can find that by Googling "Mattress Clarity best cooling mattress".
Other than sleeping hot, some people just don't like the feeling of getting trappedor stuck in the mattress.
With memory foam you really sink into the mattress.
You sleep in the mattress for the most part.
That's more of a personal preference thing that some people don't like.
What should you look out for when looking at a memory foam mattress? Some memory foam mattresses are really that slow-moving foam, and some are a little bitfaster to recover.
You should try to see where on the spectrum the mattress is.
You should also try to see if the mattress has done something to address the issue ofsleeping hot.
You should try to find out how much memory foam is in the mattress.
A mattress can be as little as half an inch of memory foam, or is up to six inches ofmemory foam, which can really affect the feel of the mattress overall.
It's time to jump into our top picks, but two quick things to note.
We're always trying to find you the best price here at Mattress Clarity, so we do have somediscounts available.
You want to check those out in the description below.
Last thing to note is that these picks are in no particular order.
First up on our list is the Layla mattress.
I like the Layla mattress for a number of reasons.
It has some pretty cool innovations to it.
It has copper-infused memory foam.
The copper can potentially bring you certain health benefits.
With the copper infusion, plus the thermal gel-infused cover, you have two differentways with how you're going to stay sleeping cool.
It's also a flippable mattress, so it has a firm side and a soft side, which is a prettycool innovation.
I really like the soft side.
I feel that the feel is very nice.
It melts away the pressure.
If you look at our pressure map test, it performed very well.
I didn't really feel any pressure whatsoever on my hips and my shoulders while I was onmy side, so I'd definitely recommend this for side sleepers.
Overall, it's just a very good value, as well.
You can get a Queen for around $800, if you include the discounts.
That's one of the best values you're going to find out there.
Next up on our list is Amerisleep.
I really like Amerisleep because they don't think that there's one best mattress for everyone.
They have a line of five memory foam mattresses, all with memory foam on top, with differentfirmnesses in mind.
It ranges from AS1, their firmest model, all the way up to AS5, their softest model.
These mattresses are going to sleep cool, as well.
They use bio-based foams.
There's little air channels in each of the mattresses that allows for air to flow through.
They have a Celliant cover, which can provide a cooler sleeping surface.
Credible studies show that.
They have some pretty cool innovations, as well.
Again, they have the Celliant cover, which can potentially help with recovery, if you'rean athlete.
Provide a cooler night of sleep as well.
Bio-based foams, and they have this manufacturing process that makes their mattresses a littlebit more durable than other all-foam mattresses.
I really like the feel, overall, as well.
The memory foam has a nice feel to it, relieves pressure very well.
On the AS4, for example, when sleeping on my side, you can see on our pressure map testingthat it performed very well.
I didn't really feel any pressure on my shoulders and hips.
Overall, I really like this line of mattresses.
Next up on our list, the Loom & Leaf mattress.
It has a bit of a different feel from the other mattresses.
You have some firmness initially, but then the high density memory foam that they usestarts kicking in, and the pressure melts away.
On my side, I felt like it was a good fit for me, in that there was some initial firmness, but then, slowly, the memory foam kicks in.
It's also firm enough for back and stomach sleeping.
I feel like it's a great fit for different sleeping positions.
It also has a few different ways of how you're going to sleep cool.
They have a gel layer actually laminated onto one of the layers.
They have gel memory foam as well.
They use partially bio-based foams too, so it's going to sleep cool.
It has a nice feel to it, good for all three sleeping positions.
Very high-quality components.
A great value overall.
Next up on our list is the Nectar mattress, which we feel is the top budget pick.
If you're a little cash-strapped, you want to get the memory foam feel but you don'twant to spend a ton of money, the Nectar might be the way to go.
It has the same feel as some of the other mattresses.
It has a really good pressure relieving, kind of quicksandy feel.
You can get it for a Queen at about $700.
I find it to be an amazing value.
I found it to be very good on my side.
If you look at my pressure map testing, it performed very well.
Didn't feel too much pressure at all on my shoulders and hips.
Found it to be a good fit for me on my back, as well.
If you're a stomach sleeper, I might look for something firmer.
Overall, an amazing value.
It feels very, very nice.
Last up on our list is the Bear mattress.
I feel that the Bear mattress has done the best job of addressing the issue of sleepinghot.
It has graphite gel infused into it, which are two highly conductive materials.
They also use very open cell memory foam, which is allows for more breathability.
They also have a Celliant cover, which studies show can also provide a cooler sleeping surface.
In my personal experience, I did not sleep hot whatsoever on this mattress.
It also has a very nice feel.
I had very little pressure on my side, my shoulders and hips, which you can see frommy pressure map testing.
Found to be good fit on my back, as well.
I would maybe look for something a little bit firmer if I'm on my stomach, but I feellike it's a very good value.
If you're worried about sleeping hot, this can be a great option for you.
Marten: Hey guys.
Marten here, to offer a different perspective.
Joe is 5'9", 160.
I'm 6'7", 230.
I have a different body type.
I wanted to give my experience of these five mattresses that Joe's been talking about.
Let's start with the Layla.
Starting on my side, really nice pressure relief.
I feel basically no pressure on my shoulders and my hips.
Really, the thick comfort layer does its job there for me.
Moving onto my back and my stomach, I definitely needed more support overall in those positions.
With the Amerisleep, we reviewed the AS4.
On this mattress, also very nice pressure relief on my side.
Barely any pressure on my shoulders and my hips.
On my back, good overall support.
On my stomach, still needed more support in that position.
With the Loom & Leaf, starting on my side.
It feels firm at first, but it slowly compressed and I feel that pressure melting away.
However, still need a little more support on my back and my stomach.
With the Nectar, on my side, I'm feeling a little bit of pressure on my shoulders andmy hips.
I'm pressing through the mattress there.
On my back, though, I feel good overall support.
On my stomach, I needed more support.
I'm bowing in there at my hips.
Finally, with the Bear mattress.
The same as the Nectar.
Feeling some pressure on my shoulders and my hips.
I'm pressing into the mattress a little bit too far, I think.
On my back, good overall support.
On my stomach, I needed more overall support.
That's my take on these five mattresses.
Joe: All right, that's basically it.
Hopefully I've given you a good overview of what you need to look out for if you're lookingto get a memory foam mattress.
