Hey everybody it's Doctor Jo, and it'sproduct review time again.
The folks atOfficeGYM sent me their orthopedic seatcushion.
So let's get started.
So there's some great things about this cushion that i reallylike.
The first thing is the cover isreally really soft.
It feels really good.
If you're wearing shorts, and it's onyour skin it's super comfortable, and it'sjust nice and soft in general, so Ireally like that.
Sometimes some coverson cushions aren't so comfortable, but it issupersoft, you could probably sleep on itif you wanted to.
It also has a little handle on here soyou can carry it with you because youcan use it in your office chair, at home,or work, you can use it in your car, youcan even take it on an airplane if youwant to.
Sometimes those seats are veryuncomfortable and so it has that nicehandle where you can just carry it withyou and you don't have to hold onto it, andyou can hold a bunch of other things, too,if you have the handle.
And then what'svery very nice about it is it has thiscutout here.
This part goes in the backbecause this is where that coccyx areaon your bottom goes.
So what you do isyou sit on it and then back therethere's no pressure on that area.
So alot of people who have had a coccyxfracture know that if they sit on thatarea is super painful, so what this doesis it allows you to sit there and haveno pressure on that spot, so that's itthat's a really good thing that makes itsuper comfortable to sit.
And then alsoif you can see here it has these littlecontours where your legs go, and so itmakes a nice little shape here so whenyou're sitting on it it doesn't cut offthe circulation in your legs, and a lotof times that happens that people areare sitting a long time on a flatsurface it cuts off the area and itfeels like your feet are going to sleep,and they getting numb and tingly andthings like that, so this is nice as itit helps kind of protect that and keepit nice and comfortable.
And then if youcan see here, when I squish on it, is it'smade out of memory foam and is supercomfortable.
It's nice and soft andsquishy.
Some other cushionsare a little bit firmer and that might befine for you, but I feel like this isreally nice because it's going to helpmold to your bottom and those curves inyour bottom so it makes it supercomfortable, and you kind of sit in thereand it's nice and you don't have, youknow, these areas where you're having tolean and take pressure off because itsits in there very nicely.
It also has a zipper here where you canopen it up and take the actual memoryfoam, where you can see here I'll push ona little bit, that memory foam you cantake that out and then you can wash thecover separately.
So you know if you'resitting on it and it gets a littlesweaty, or maybe if you have this for afamily member in a wheelchair and itgets soiled a little bit you can take itout and wash it and so that's reallynice as well.
So what I'm gonna do is I'mgoing to put it in the chair and kind ofshow you what it's like and show you howto sit properly because when you sit allday long, especially at work, and you'refocusing on what you're doing,people tend to get a really bad postureand it is just bad for your body ingeneral.
It causes a lot of problems soI'll show you some good tips to make youget into a better posture while you'resitting.
So as you can see, make sure thisopening is in the back portion of thechair where the backrest is, and thenmake sure it's comfortable for you andthen sit.
And so you can feel thatopening in that bottom area where thatcoccyx is is nice and open it doesn'thave any pressure on it now.
If you cansee my toes are touching but my heelsare not.
When you're sitting in a chairespecially for a long time you want yourfeet to be flat.
And so especially if youstart off with your feet flat and youput a cushion in it, you're going to haveto change the height just a little bitbecause you don't want to sit like thisbecause then again there's a lot ofpressure on the bottom part of the legsthere and that that can causecirculation issues.
So hopefully you havea chair that you can change the heightof it, and so now my feet are flat.
Let's say you don't have a chair thatyou can't move the height then get alittle stool or something so you canprop your feet up because you reallywant your knees and your hips to be atthat 90-degree angle, or pretty close toit, and that's what gets you in thatneutral position.
You also want to sitnice and tall, and that's what thiscushion helps you do.
When I sit in it, Ifeel like I can sit up a little bittaller vs sometimes even with nicechairs like this one, it tends to want tokind of suck you in, and then you end upgetting a different curve in your backthan the normal curve, but with thecushion in there it really helps me tosit up taller and it makes it feel good,and I might not actually have it againstthe back of the chair but that's okaybecause then you can work your coremuscles while you're sitting nice andtall.
If you're at a desk area, you want thatyour desk height to be where you canhave your arms comfortably so you don'twant to be up here and you're looking up,and you don't want them to be down low.
And another good one is a lot of timeswhen people are working especially on acomputer or something, their head goesforward and it goes forward and thenthese muscles and these muscles get overstretched.
These get tight and so sometimesjust taking five minutes every hour indoing some chin tucks really helps kindof reset those muscles and that makesyou not go forward so much.
So it's achin tuck.
Just a simple to chin tuck, Ilike using my finger as a target becausethen it makes me feel like I'maccomplishing something.
Just start offwith your finger on your chin and thenpull your chin backwards almost like ifmy hand was here and I'm trying to touchthe back of my head some.
I'm squishingit in where you get like a lot of littlechins right there, and just hold it forabout three to five seconds and then letgo and you can see, that's a little bitof an exaggeration of my finger, butusually your fingers here and then whenyou come back you're not quite as closeto your finger and that just meansyou're kind of resetting those muscles.
So hold it for about 3-5 seconds, do aboutfive of those, and now hopefully resetthose muscles and a lot of times thathelps take away tension headaches thatyou have by overstressing those neckmuscles.
You can also take just a few minutes toget your legs going a little bit, and itcan be as simple as just doing a littlemarch in your chair.
A seated march, justto get those legs moving and circling ifyou don't have a chance to get up andmove around.
But ideally every hour youwant to get up move around,and if it's just for 30 seconds do a sitto stand about five times just to makesure that your body's not staying in onespot for a long period of time.
