How To Use Pulse Oximeter - Oxygen Advantage (2018)

hemoglobin carries more oxygen in the blood it was a small amount of oxygenthat is dissolved directly in the blood because oxygen is insoluble and bloodhas to be carried by something so it's carried by hemoglobin and hemoglobin orproteins within the red blood cells and each unit of hemoglobin carries aboutfour units of oxygen hemoglobin when it's saturated with oxygen gives a redcolor hemoglobin when it's desaturate it gives a more purple color if you wenthypoxic your lips will go purple that's because the hemoglobin has releasedoxygen and because the hemoglobin is not carrying oxygen this little pulseoximeter has got an infrared light inside mesh you put your nail againstthe red light the color of hemoglobin that saturated with oxygenthis is picking up on so basically the red light is to detect if yourhemoglobin is saturated Rd saturated does that make sensenormal is 95 to 99 percent that's normal now my point here is by the way if youhave your pulse oximeter the top breathing is the spo2 that's thesaturation of your peripheral arteries with oxygen the lower reading is yourpulse ratio so don't worry too much about your pulse at this point it'smainly despi or to my point here about big breathing is your our breathingusually and normally now your blood oxygen saturation is going to be almostfully saturated normal breathing how fully loaded are the hemoglobin moreoxygen they're almost fully saturated if I started taking telling you to take bigbreaths you can't add any more oxygen to the hemoglobin does that make sense thewhole usefulness of taking big breaths filling your lungs full of air iscounterproductive the harder you breathe you don't bringany more oxygen in yes you will increase the amount of oxygen dissolved in theblood by a little amount but you won't increase the spo2 which is the maincarrier of oxygen.
