So, how did we test?Performance: this includes heat-up time, soil-removal time and the amount of time it takes for yourfloors to dry.
Convenience, which is anything from the amount of time it takes the steam mop to actuallysteam, the cord-length, weight and even noise.
And lastly, overall usability.
Again, how much it weighs, the mobility of the mop head, ready-and-empty light indicatorsand how multi-purpose can a steam mop actually be?Now, steam mops clearly make it easy to clean and sanitize hard floors, without hazardous chemicals.
Even so, steam mops are best used on ceramic tile, grout, sealed wood floors or linoleum flooring, butalways double-check with your flooring manufacturer.
So, our favorite steam mop is definitely the Bissell - 19404 PowerFresh Steam Mop.
It is not only the easiest steam mop to use, but was the top-performer in both the high-trafficand food soil tests.
This means bright, shiny and ultra-clean floors.
The Bissell had great additional features like the built-in easy scrubber for tougherstains as well as two machine-washable microfiber pad options that have anti-microbial protection.
Lastly, the Bissell offers plenty of convenience features: a digital indicator light and severalsteam control settings, a lightweight removable water tank, and a quick heat-up time at 30seconds, which resulted in a quick clean time at 10 seconds.
This ultimately resulted in about two minutes of drying time.
The Steamfast - SF-370WH Multi-Purpose Steam Cleaner is our best multi-purpose steam mop.
The Steamfast can be used on a variety of surfaces such as office floors, walls andeven kitchen appliances like your oven or refrigerator.
Although this makes the set-up appear difficult to use, the Steamfast provides several accessoriesand multiple add-ons to make all of your cleaning sessions convenient.
So, you’ll have a reason to clean… everything.
Another feature that makes this product stand out is the size of its water tank.
It holds double the amount of water than our other finalists and can be used for up to 45 minutes.
The Shark Steam Pocket Mop: our top budget-pick.
Let’s first go over what makes this such a great bang for your buck: the pocket mopheats-up in 30 seconds and dries in two minutes, it is extremely lightweight at 4.
5 poundsand has a double-sided cleaning pad, which means you can scrub tough messes without trackingany soil on the rest of your floor.
With a budget-pick does come some downsides.
The pocket mop did take significantly longer to clean dried food.
Plus, there’s some manual labor involved as well.
With the pocket mop you have to pump and push simultaneously to create steam.
Lastly, it was the most difficult steam mop to re-fill out of our top finalistswith no removable water tank.
Alright, let’s go over our remaining picks.
The Shark - Professional Steam Pocket Mop S3601D in many ways is our runner-up overall.
However, it didn’t quite have one particular feature to make it stand out from the rest of the pack.
The Shark - Professional Steam Pocket does have several steam settings, added about two feetto its cord-length and can remove stains in about 10 seconds.
But, it does make a lot more noise compared to its competitors.
It is also one of our most expensive picks, but many justify the price tag by the additionof a triangle mop head and digital steam control.
The Bissell - Symphony Pet All-in-One Vacuum and Steam Mop was clearly our top pet-friendlychoice, which is worth mentioning.
The fact that it can steam and vacuum hair at the same time is a huge advantage.
Now, it is up there in cost, similar to the Shark - Professional Steam Pocket, but withdigital controls, easy set-up and its vacuuming capabilities, it quickly justifies the investment.
Finally, the O-Cedar - Microfiber Steam Mop won our "speed demon" honor as well as beingone of the most affordable finalists.
It has our shortest heat-up time at 20 seconds, while being competitive in its soil removal time.
It is important to note that it is sub-par in drying time at 40 minutes, which can becomeinconvenient if you have some last-minute company arriving at the house.
The O-Cedar uses an angled head mop and is pretty lightweight at 7.
5 pounds, but doesn’tquite have the cleaning power like the other finalists.
All in all, the Bissell - 19404 PowerFresh Steam Mop outperformedthe competition in several of the key metrics we used to determine the best steam mop: quickheating time, can be used up to 20 minutes at a time, short drying time, efficient cleaningfeatures and a removable tank.
